Approach to Psychiatry
Our approach to psychiatry is built on the belief that mental health is as vital as physical health — and deserves the same level of expert, compassionate care. We take a whole-person perspective, recognising that emotional, psychological, and social factors are deeply interconnected. Every individual who comes to us is met without judgement, listened to with care, and supported through a personalised treatment plan that draws on the best of modern psychiatric practice. Whether managing acute mental health crises or supporting long-term wellness, our team is committed to restoring balance, function, and hope.
Primary Care of Psychiatry
Effective psychiatric care begins with early recognition and a strong primary care foundation. Many mental health conditions — including depression, anxiety, and mood disorders — are first identified in a primary care setting, and timely intervention can profoundly change a patient’s journey. Our psychiatrists collaborate closely with GPs, psychologists, and allied health professionals to create integrated care pathways that ensure no patient falls through the gaps. From initial assessment and risk evaluation to medication management and talking therapies, we provide coordinated, evidence-based care that places the patient at the centre of every decision.

FAQs About The Service
There are many questions about the service, we have selected frequently asked questions about this service. If you do not see your answer, please contact us.
What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specialises in mental health and is qualified to diagnose psychiatric conditions, prescribe medication, and provide therapy. A psychologist holds a doctoral degree in psychology and primarily delivers talking therapies and psychological assessments but does not prescribe medication. Both play important and complementary roles in mental health care.
How do I know if I need psychiatric help?
You may benefit from a psychiatric consultation if you are experiencing persistent low mood, excessive worry, sudden changes in behaviour or thought patterns, difficulty functioning at work or in relationships, or thoughts of self-harm. You do not need to be in crisis to seek support — early intervention often leads to the best outcomes. A referral from your GP is a good starting point.
Is everything I share with my psychiatrist kept confidential?
Yes, psychiatric consultations are confidential. Information you share is protected under professional and legal obligations. There are limited exceptions — for example, if there is a serious and imminent risk of harm to yourself or others — in which case your clinician is required to act in the interest of safety. Your psychiatrist will explain these boundaries clearly at your first appointment.
