Approach to Emergency Medicine

Our approach to emergency medicine is built on speed, accuracy, and unwavering clinical judgment. When every second matters, our emergency teams are trained to assess, stabilise, and treat a broad spectrum of acute conditions — from life-threatening trauma and cardiac events to sudden neurological episodes and severe allergic reactions. We operate with a structured triage system that ensures the most critical patients receive immediate attention, while all patients are treated with dignity, clarity, and expert care. Our emergency department functions around the clock, equipped with the latest diagnostic tools and staffed by specialists ready to act decisively at any hour.

Primary Care of Emergency Medicine

Effective emergency care begins with a strong foundation in primary assessment and rapid clinical decision-making. Our emergency medicine specialists are trained to manage the full range of urgent presentations — working alongside paramedics, nurses, and in-hospital specialists to deliver coordinated, time-sensitive care from the moment a patient arrives. Beyond acute intervention, we prioritise clear communication with patients and families, timely handover to inpatient teams, and appropriate discharge planning to prevent unnecessary readmissions. Our goal is not only to treat the immediate crisis but to connect every patient to the ongoing care they need.

Trauma & Critical Care

Immediate management of major trauma, polytrauma, and life-threatening emergencies — supported by a dedicated resuscitation team, rapid imaging, and direct access to surgical and intensive care services.

Acute Medical Emergencies

Expert assessment and stabilisation of sudden cardiac events, strokes, respiratory failure, seizures, and severe infections — with real-time specialist input and fast-track diagnostic pathways.

Paediatric Emergency Care

Specialised emergency services for infants, children, and adolescents — managed by clinicians with dedicated paediatric training in a child-friendly environment designed to reduce anxiety for both patients and families.

FAQs About The Service

There are many questions about the service, we have selected frequently asked questions about this service. If you do not see your answer, please contact us.

When should I go to the emergency department instead of a GP?
You should visit the emergency department for any condition that is sudden, severe, or rapidly worsening — such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, stroke symptoms, serious injuries, loss of consciousness, or severe allergic reactions. For non-urgent concerns, your general practitioner or an urgent care clinic is usually the more appropriate first point of contact.
How does triage work in the emergency department?
On arrival, every patient is assessed by a triage nurse or clinician who evaluates the urgency of their condition. Patients are then prioritised based on clinical need — not arrival time — meaning those with the most serious or life-threatening conditions are seen first. Waiting times for less urgent cases can vary depending on overall department demand.
Will I be admitted to hospital after an emergency visit?
Not necessarily. Many patients are treated and discharged from the emergency department with appropriate follow-up instructions and referrals. Admission is recommended only when a patient requires further monitoring, specialist intervention, or inpatient care that cannot be safely provided at home. Your treating clinician will explain the decision and next steps clearly before discharge.
