Your safety is our priority — before, during, and after.

If you have an upcoming procedure or questions about what to expect from anaesthesia, our team is here to guide you. Speak with one of our specialist anaesthetists to understand your options and feel fully prepared and at ease ahead of your surgery.

Approach to Anesthesiology

Our approach to anesthesiology goes far beyond simply putting a patient to sleep before surgery. It is a discipline built on vigilance, pharmacological expertise, and a profound responsibility for patient safety at the most vulnerable moments of medical care. Our anaesthetists conduct thorough pre-operative assessments, design individually tailored anaesthetic plans, and maintain continuous monitoring throughout every procedure — ensuring each patient remains stable, comfortable, and well-protected from start to finish. We treat anaesthesia not as a background service, but as a critical pillar of outstanding surgical care.

Primary Care of Anesthesiology

Effective anaesthetic care begins long before the operating theatre. Our anaesthesiologists work closely with surgeons, physicians, and nursing teams to evaluate each patient’s medical history, current medications, allergies, and risk factors prior to any procedure. This pre-operative groundwork allows us to anticipate complications, choose the most appropriate anaesthetic technique — whether general, regional, or sedation-based — and prepare contingency plans for complex cases. Post-operatively, our team continues to oversee pain management and recovery, ensuring a safe and comfortable transition back to full wakefulness.

General Anaesthesia

Carefully administered for major surgical procedures, placing the patient in a controlled, fully unconscious state with continuous monitoring of vital signs, airway, and depth of anaesthesia throughout the operation.

Regional & Local Anaesthesia

Targeted nerve blocks, epidurals, and spinal anaesthesia used to numb specific regions of the body — enabling surgery with minimal systemic exposure and often reducing post-operative pain and recovery time.

Pain Management & Recovery

Dedicated post-anaesthetic care including acute pain protocols, patient-controlled analgesia, and individualised recovery plans — supporting a smooth, monitored transition from theatre to ward or discharge.

FAQs About The Service

There are many questions about the service, we have selected frequently asked questions about this service. If you do not see your answer, please contact us.

Is anaesthesia safe, and what are the risks?
Modern anaesthesia is very safe, particularly for healthy individuals undergoing elective procedures. Risks do exist and vary depending on the patient's age, medical history, and the complexity of the surgery — but serious complications are rare. Your anaesthetist will discuss all relevant risks during your pre-operative consultation and take every precaution to minimise them.
Will I feel pain or be aware during the procedure?
Your anaesthetic plan is specifically designed to ensure you feel no pain and, in the case of general anaesthesia, have no awareness during your procedure. Our team continuously monitors anaesthetic depth and adjusts dosing as needed throughout the operation. Awareness under general anaesthesia is extremely uncommon and is something we take active steps to prevent.
How should I prepare before receiving anaesthesia?
You will typically be asked to fast — avoiding food and fluids — for a specified number of hours before your procedure. You should inform your anaesthetist of all current medications, supplements, allergies, and any previous reactions to anaesthesia. Smoking, alcohol, and certain medications may also need to be paused beforehand. Full preparation guidance will be provided at your pre-operative appointment.
