Advanced Hepatology Services
Our approach to hepatology is built on a thorough understanding of liver biology, early disease recognition, and patient-centred care. Liver disease often progresses silently, making a proactive and systematic clinical approach essential. Our hepatology team combines advanced diagnostic tools with extensive clinical experience to evaluate, monitor, and treat the full spectrum of liver, biliary, and pancreatic disorders. We work collaboratively across specialities — including gastroenterology, transplant surgery, radiology, and oncology — to ensure every patient receives a comprehensive, individualised management plan that addresses not just the disease, but the whole person.
Advanced Care for Liver Health
Primary care plays a pivotal role in the early detection and management of liver disease. Conditions such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis, and alcohol-related liver damage can remain asymptomatic for years before progressing to cirrhosis or liver failure. Our hepatologists work hand-in-hand with general practitioners and primary care physicians to identify at-risk patients early, establish accurate diagnoses, and implement timely treatment strategies. From routine liver function monitoring to complex fibrosis assessment, we support primary care teams with specialist guidance that keeps patients on the safest possible path — before complications arise.

FAQs About The Service
There are many questions about the service, we have selected frequently asked questions about this service. If you do not see your answer, please contact us.
What conditions does a hepatologist treat?
A hepatologist specialises in disorders of the liver, bile ducts, gallbladder, and pancreas. Common conditions include viral hepatitis (B and C), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, cirrhosis, autoimmune liver conditions, liver cancer, and biliary tract disorders. Hepatologists also manage patients being evaluated for or recovering from a liver transplant.
How do I know if I need to see a hepatologist?
You may be referred to a hepatologist if your blood tests reveal persistently elevated liver enzymes, if imaging identifies abnormalities in your liver or bile ducts, or if you have been diagnosed with a condition such as hepatitis, fatty liver disease, or cirrhosis. Symptoms such as jaundice, abdominal swelling, unexplained fatigue, or right-sided abdominal discomfort are also reasons your doctor may recommend a specialist review.
Is liver disease always related to alcohol?
No — while alcohol is a well-known cause of liver damage, many liver conditions have no connection to alcohol use. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, linked to obesity and metabolic syndrome, is now one of the most prevalent liver conditions worldwide. Other causes include viral infections, autoimmune disorders, genetic conditions such as haemochromatosis or Wilson's disease, and certain medications. A hepatologist will identify the underlying cause and recommend targeted treatment accordingly.
